Trauma informed practice

Here at Barnardo’s Beacon we believe in a person centered approach, and really encourage organisations and professionals to develop knowledge and understand of how to support young people in a trauma informed and responsive way. Being trauma informed means being aware of adverse life experiences and traumas that could have a negative impact on a person's wellbeing, behaviour and whole life.

Whilst all of our consultancy, training and therapeutic support is trauma informed, as we are a small team who focus on Child Sexual Abuse, we are not able to deliver focused trauma informed and responsive training.

We have put together some of the below resources and links so you can gain a better understanding of what it means to work in this way.

The Trauma Informed Project

The Trauma Informed Project is working to support organisations across the West Midlands Region in becoming trauma aware and to help embed this into their practice. For more details, resources and free training courses please click HERE

Young Minds

Young Minds did some research with young people in 2016 and they have co-created ‘The six principles of adversity and trauma-informed care’ which we think are great for professionals to remember when supporting young people who have experienced sexual abuse.
